Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker, Oscar Peterson i Jack Kerouac – to tylko część artystów i twórców, których nagrania znalazły się na „Verve Records: The Sound of America”. Jubileuszowa kolekcja, przygotowana z okazji 70-lecia Verve Records, pokazuje niezwykłą różnorodność złotej ery wytwórni: od jazzu i nagrań orkiestrowych po poezję beatników i klasyczny stand-up.
Norman Granz, założyciel Verve Records, działał jako niezależny producent fonograficzny od początku lat 40. XX wieku. Swoją sieć firm fonograficznych i katalog nagrań budował stopniowo – płyta po płycie, artysta po artyście. Do chwili sprzedaży wytwórni pod koniec 1960 roku zgromadził imponującą kolekcję nagrań, która do dziś pozostaje osiągnięciem bez precedensu.
Za współprodukcję jubileuszowej kolekcji odpowiada Tad Hershorn, biograf Normana Granza. Wydanie 4 LP / 2 CD celebruje niezwykłą różnorodność nagrań powstałych w złotej erze Verve Records pod kierownictwem jej założyciela. W zestawie znalazły się m.in. utwory Elli Fitzgerald i Billie Holiday, nagrania Charliego Parkera z orkiestrą smyczkową, poezja beatników w wykonaniu Jacka Kerouaca oraz klasyczne występy stand-upowe.
„Verve Records: The Sound of America” dołącza do serii premier i wznowień przygotowanych w ramach obchodów Verve 70. Wydawnictwo poprzedza także jubileuszowy koncert wytwórni, który odbędzie się 2 września na SummerStage w Central Parku. Na scenie wystąpią artyści reprezentujący „nową klasę Verve”: Samara Joy, Liana Flores, aron! i Sparklmami, a wśród gości specjalnych znajdą się Christian McBride i Mei Semones.

Z czasem wytwórnia stała się miejscem dla przełomowych postaci w historii muzyki. W jej katalogu znaleźli się m.in.
